What the product is, before any of the engineering.
A normal Bluetooth headset built into a pair of TR90 sunglasses, with one button on the right temple that records to sixteen hours of on-device storage. Playback, volume, answering and hanging up are handled by your phone exactly as they are for any other Bluetooth headset. The button does one thing and has never done anything else. There is no screen, no camera, no wake word, no assistant and no subscription.
Not in the sense the phrase usually means. Nothing computes on the glasses — no model on the device, no processor deciding what matters, no assistant with a name. The glasses capture your voice accurately and hand it to your phone, and the AI, if you want any, runs there.
We built the microphone geometry rather than the intelligence, because the microphone is the part nobody else fixed. Every voice product in the last three years got better models and kept the same bad distance from your mouth.
People who already wear sunglasses outdoors and already think out loud: walkers, runners, commuters, cyclists, dog owners, parents pushing a stroller, anyone whose good ideas arrive nowhere near a keyboard.
If you never leave a desk, an ordinary microphone is better and cheaper. The product only makes sense if you were going to put something on your face anyway.
No. No camera, no housing for one, no plan for one. Razzhood Glasses listen and they speak. They never see.

Audio sunglasses without a recorder already exist. Several brands make them, they are fine, and we would be the fourth or fifth company selling the same thing. Audio sunglasses that record only your own voice and hold sixteen hours of it on the device do not exist at all.
Launching with the version that has no equivalent on the market is the honest way round. So the Founders Edition is the only product for now.
Because nothing computes on the glasses. There is no model on the device and no processor deciding what matters; they write audio to their own flash and do nothing else with it.
Turning that into searchable text happens on your phone or laptop, in Razzhood STT — where there is already a processor, a screen and a keyboard. Putting any of that on your face would make the glasses heavier, hotter and shorter-lived for no gain we could find.

Because almost everyone gets stuck on the same question — clear lenses or tinted — and buying two makes the question disappear. One clear pair for indoors and grey days, one Light Red Gold or Light Gray for when the sun is out. Frames and lenses are chosen separately for each pair.
It is also honest about what this is: a preorder run of a thousand units, not a shelf product. Bundling is how a first run gets made at all.
From a partner creator. There is no public discount and no code on this site — the $100 belongs to a creator who backed the product before it existed, and it exists only on their invite link. The creator earns 30% of what you pay.

The part we designed first, and the reason the rest of the product looks the way it does.
No, and the reason is physical rather than algorithmic. The main microphone sits under the left rim, 4 to 7 centimetres from your mouth and pointed at it. The reference microphone sits on top of the right rim about 12 centimetres away, pointed up and tilted back.
When you speak, your voice arrives at the main mic 7 to 9 dB louder than at the reference: 5.3 dB from the distance ratio alone, plus 2 to 4 dB because one port faces your mouth and the other faces away from it behind the frame. When someone half a metre away speaks, both microphones are almost equidistant from them, so the difference is under 1 dB.
The firmware compares the two levels against a threshold of 4 to 5 dB and writes nothing below it. There is no voiceprint, no model, and no way to switch it off — it is not a setting, it is where the holes are.
A firmware update could change a threshold. It could not move a microphone. The reference mic is on the opposite corner of the frame facing the sky specifically so that the physical arrangement, not the code, is doing the work — a design where the guarantee survives us changing our minds.
Three reasons, in order of weight.
A light on the temple sits at the edge of your vision a few centimetres from your eye. A blinking point of light there is genuinely unpleasant to live with, and no amount of industrial design fixes that.
These get worn in the evening. Low-lux light at night suppresses melatonin — measurable effects appear well under 30 lux, sensitive people react at around 6 lux, and children react far more strongly than adults. Our users include nine-year-olds. A nightly LED beside a child's eye is a real cost for a decorative feature.
And the problem an indicator light usually solves — telling bystanders they are being recorded — does not exist here, because bystanders cannot be recorded. We removed the cause instead of adding the warning.
They can look at the glasses. There is no camera, and the microphone ports are under a millimetre across and face down and up rather than out. The honest version of this answer is that a stranger cannot verify a claim about any device, which is why we would rather the claim be about geometry than about our good intentions.
Audio sits in the glasses' local flash until you sync it to your own phone. Nothing is sent anywhere by the glasses — they have no radio other than Bluetooth to your device. Transcription is the one step where audio leaves your phone, and only for the recordings you choose to transcribe.
On your device. They sit there for seven days and then clear, unless you keep one. The default is forgetting, because a searchable archive of everything you ever muttered is a liability dressed as a feature.
Recording law varies by country and, in the United States, by state — some jurisdictions require every party to a conversation to consent, others only one. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice.
What we can say about the hardware: it is designed to capture only the wearer's voice, which is the case that most consent rules are least concerned with. If you set out to record a conversation with someone else, this is the wrong tool, and it will mostly fail at the job.
Deleting it in the app removes it from both. A fifteen-second long-press wipes the device's storage entirely, which is the same gesture as factory reset — three long tones and it is gone.

One button, and the small number of things it will not do.
Press once and it records. Press again and it stops. Say nothing for thirty seconds and it stops on its own. There is no press-and-hold, no double tap, no swipe and no time limit — if you have ten minutes of thinking to say out loud, nothing interrupts you at minute two.
Because of the length of what you are saying. Hold-to-talk is designed for three to six second utterances, and it is excellent for that. Our case is a paragraph — sometimes several — and holding an arm up beside your head for four minutes outdoors is not a thing anyone does twice.
It is the only mechanism that ends a recording without you. You finish a thought, you stop talking, and half a minute later the glasses close the file. It follows the rhythm of the speaker instead of a stopwatch.
Outdoors this matters more than it sounds: a street is never silent, so a simple loudness detector would never trigger. The rule here is not "is there sound" but "is the difference between the two microphones still large" — which collapses the moment you stop talking, however loud the world is.
Every five minutes the glasses silently seal the current file and start a new one, with a one to two second overlap. No tone, no vibration, no gap in the audio. The app merges the pieces and de-duplicates the overlapping words. You never find out it happened.
Five rather than ten is a pure engineering choice: smaller files sync faster, transcribe more reliably and lose less if something goes wrong. Since the seam is invisible either way, there is no reason to take the larger number.
Two recordings less than sixty seconds apart merge into one note automatically. Pausing to think does not shred your note into fragments.
Anything under two seconds is discarded — not uploaded, not shown, not counted. You will never see a library full of two-second pocket noise.
No, and this took specific work. There is a 200 to 400 millisecond gap between the contact closing and the microphone being stable, which is exactly long enough to eat the first syllable. The microphone starts writing into a ring buffer the instant the contact closes, and once it is stable that buffered audio is spliced onto the front of the recording. Get this wrong and the whole product feels broken.
A short rising tone and a light buzz when it starts. A falling tone and a buzz when it stops. Nothing at all in between. Rising means beginning and falling means ending — direction of pitch is recognised without thinking about it, which timbre is not.
Three short tones when you press with storage full, and it does not start. One extra long tone at the end of a recording made while your phone was not connected, meaning it is stored locally. One extra tone after each recording below 10% battery. Nothing at all when the battery is empty.
No. There is no power state to manage. Press and it wakes; finish and it sleeps. Long-press exists only for pairing at five seconds and factory reset at fifteen — two things you do once. Deleting the on-off ritual is what makes the button honest: whatever is happening, one press means record.
Hold the button for five seconds. One long tone means pairing mode, and they appear in your phone's Bluetooth list like any headset. There is no light, so the tone is the confirmation.
No, and deliberately. Volume, skip, answer and hang up all live on your phone, where you already know where they are. Putting them on the glasses would mean the button has to mean different things at different times, and then you would have to remember which — which is exactly the failure we designed the whole interaction to avoid.

Why a 300 mAh battery lasts a month, and why that is a design decision rather than a spec.
Sixteen hours of audio fit in on-device storage — 512MB of NAND flash, ADPCM at 16kHz. The battery runs about twelve hours of continuous recording, so storage is the larger number.
Most people are not recording twelve hours a day. At fifteen minutes of voice notes daily, one charge lasts about a month, because the rest of the time the glasses are in deep sleep drawing under 100 microamps.
By refusing to hold a Bluetooth connection. Maintaining a link costs roughly 0.75 mA around the clock, about 18 mAh a day, which would empty this battery in under two weeks. Since recording does not need the link for anything, the radio stays off. It wakes to sync, transfers, disconnects and sleeps.
You never notice, because the recording function never depended on the connection in the first place.
One 150 mAh cell in each temple, 300 mAh in total, balanced so the frame does not pull to one side. Charging is by magnetic contacts.
Under two hours from empty. There is no charging light — the app shows the level when they are connected, and given that a charge lasts about a month, this is not a number you will be checking often.
The current five-minute segment is already sealed on flash, and everything before it is safe. You lose at most the seconds since the last seal. This is a second reason for segmenting at five minutes rather than ten.
Pressing the button gives three short tones and nothing starts. Nothing is silently overwritten — we would rather refuse than quietly delete something you meant to keep. Syncing clears space.
About five hours of music, about four hours of calls. Playback is the expensive mode because the radio and the speakers are both running; recording is cheap because neither is.

They are a headset first. Most hours of most days, that is the only thing they are.
Open-ear speakers in the temples, aimed at your ear. Your ear canal stays open, so you still hear traffic, a bike bell and someone saying your name. Outdoors that is not a compromise, it is the requirement.
At normal volume in a normal street, no. In a silent room at high volume, yes, somewhat — this is true of every open-ear design and anyone claiming otherwise is describing a different physics. If you want isolation, wear earbuds; these are for outdoors.
Better than most headsets for the same reason recording is: the microphone is 4 to 7 centimetres from your mouth instead of hanging off your ear or sitting in your pocket. The wind screening that recording needed helps calls too.
Not active cancellation, which needs power and a sealed ear, and neither exists here. What the product does have is wind suppression in firmware and a physical wind screen over each port — metal mesh and acoustic foam. Outdoors, wind is the dominant problem and cancellation is not the tool for it.
Three centimetres. The bottom of the left rim is about 6.5cm from an average mouth; the front of the temple is about 9.5cm. That is 3.3 dB more signal.
Ambient noise is far-field and arrives at both positions at the same strength, so the 3.3 dB is a straight gain in signal-to-noise ratio. Downstream of a noisy street, feeding a speech-to-text model, those three centimetres land directly on transcription accuracy. It is the least glamorous decision in the product and probably the most consequential.
Yes, and there is a deliberate gesture for it. Take the glasses off and hold them up to your mouth: the same main microphone comes to 2 to 3 centimetres, which is whisper range. Nothing switches modes; the geometry just improves.
The main mic faces down under the rim, which is straight into the airstream. Each port has metal mesh and acoustic foam over it and the firmware runs wind suppression on top. Without both, the product would be unusable outdoors, which is why neither is optional.
The port faces down and slightly forward rather than straight at your lips, and there is a high-pass filter at 100 to 150 Hz. Almost all breath and plosive energy sits below that line. Almost none of your voice does.

Four pale colours and one nylon, each chosen against the obvious alternative.
Because four pale colours that all work with each other beat twelve that mostly do not.
Space Gray reads more expensive than black, which is the whole reason to use it — black is the default, and defaults do not read as chosen. It is also the colour most people already picked for the phone and the laptop in front of them, so it argues with nothing else they own.
Light Pink is not a women's colourway, and we want to be direct about that because the assumption is automatic. The fashion creators we interviewed were unanimous in the other direction: a man in pink glasses reads young and current, and the word that kept coming back was clean. It is a warm colour rather than a loud one.
Saturated colour is where eyewear starts to look cheap. True blue, true green, true yellow, bright white — every one of them is one bad light away from reading as plastic, whatever it actually cost to make. Pale colours do not have that failure mode.
It also means every frame works with every lens. With four colours in the range there are four combinations, and we did not have to warn anybody away from any of them.
Because these are not used the way sunglasses are used, in two specific places.
Indoors, you cannot take them off. There is a Bluetooth headset in them. You may be on a call or halfway through something you are listening to, and pulling the glasses off ends it. Making somebody choose between hearing and seeing at a doorway is a bad thing to design. So the lens has to be liveable under a ceiling light, and a dark lens is not.
Outdoors, you still have to read your phone. Syncing, checking a transcript, searching for what you said on Tuesday — all outside, in the sun, on a screen. A dark lens sends the glasses onto your forehead every time. A pale one shades your eyes and leaves the screen alone, and in strong sun you stop noticing the tint is there.
Two reasons. It is young and current rather than conservative, which is unusual for a warm tint.
The second reason is the one we did not expect. In testing, a very pale warm tint makes the whites of your eyes read whiter and your gaze read clearer. You will never see this in a mirror — it is what the person across the table sees. A lens colour that improves how your eyes read to other people is doing more work than one that only looks good on a shelf.
No. We asked a lot of fashion creators about gradients and the answers were consistent and blunt: a gradient reads middle-aged. It is a permanent stripe of darkness sitting on your face in every photograph.
Photochromic is the version of the same idea that does not carry that, because nothing about it is permanent. Most of the time it is a clear lens. When there is sun, it is a pair of sunglasses.
Because of what is inside the frame. There is a microphone in the front and electronics down both temples, and threading wiring through a metal frame is a harder problem with no gain we could find.
TR90 is not the cheap plastic the word "nylon" suggests — it is the material high-end American outdoor eyewear is built from. Very light, very resilient, and it flexes back rather than taking a set.
In the same class, and the reason is shape rather than material.
Traditional outdoor eyewear is thick, wide and heavy. A wide frame forces a wide lens, and lens area is where weight actually accumulates. We did not build a sports wrap; we used the proportions of an ordinary indoor frame, so the rim and the lens are both smaller and the weight is saved at the source. TR90 is barely heavier than titanium to begin with.
And past a point the comparison stops being interesting. Once a pair is already light, five grams is not what decides whether you can wear it for four hours — fit is, and so is how long you intended to wear it in the first place.
Probably, and the tooling was built for it: the temples hold all the electronics and are moulded separately from the front, so a new frame shape or colour does not need new electronics. What we will not do is add saturated colours to make the range look bigger.

The fit is not cosmetic here. The fit is where the microphone ends up.
TR90 nylon, in the proportions of an ordinary indoor frame rather than a sports wrap. Light, highly resilient, and it flexes back instead of taking a set. The material and weight argument is in group 07.
The front frame and the temples are moulded in separate steel tools. Steel rather than aluminium because TR90 flows poorly and aluminium tools blur exactly the details we are paying for; separate because the temples hold all the electronics, so a future frame shape only needs a new front.
It is real, and it is the reason the number is given as a range. Faces differ. A smaller face puts the rim closer to the mouth and a larger one further away, and both stay inside the window where the level difference between the two microphones is unambiguous. The threshold was set with that spread in mind rather than for one average head.
One size at launch. This is a first production run of a thousand units, and a second front-frame tool costs more than the run does. Additional shapes are the first thing we spend money on afterwards, which is precisely why the temple tooling was designed to be reused.
The intended range starts at about nine years old, on a larger child. On a small face they will slide, and sliding moves the main microphone away from the mouth, which degrades the thing the product exists to do.
Yes, from $25, quoted from your correction. Not progressives — the wide sport curve does not suit a progressive corridor and we would rather decline than ship a lens we expect to disappoint. Full lens detail here.
No, deliberately. Polarised lenses darken phone screens and at some angles black them out, and this is a product you look at your phone with. UV400 tint blocks the same ultraviolet, costs about half as much and leaves your screen readable.
All four combinations work, which is a consequence of everything being pale. Light Red Gold on Space Gray is the least expected of the four and the one most people in the studio ended up wearing.
No. Ultraviolet protection comes from the UV400 coating or the material, and has nothing to do with the tint. A dark lens without UV400 is worse than none: the darkness opens your pupil and lets more ultraviolet in. Every Razzhood lens is UV400 in both tints at every price.
Yes. The electronics are in the temples, so a spare front lens set costs what the lens costs. Own a grey pair and a photochromic pair and swap by season.
Heavier than plain sunglasses, lighter than anything with a camera and a display in it. The mass is in the temples, distributed across both sides, which reads on the face very differently from the same mass on the nose.
IPX4 at minimum — sweat and splashing rain, not swimming. Sweat gets specific attention because it runs down your forehead and lands exactly where the main microphone port is; the port mesh and internal drainage were designed around that path.

The half that runs on your phone, not on your face.
Pulls recordings off the glasses, stitches the five-minute segments back into single notes, transcribes them, and lets you search the result. It also holds the settings the glasses do not have room for: silence timeout, near-field sensitivity, storage management, battery, firmware.

Honestly, including where something else is the better buy.
Camera glasses solve a different problem and carry a different social cost. A camera on your face changes every room you enter, which is why those products need an indicator light and why people still object to them.
Razzhood Glasses have no camera, cannot pick up the conversation next to you, and are consequently boring to everyone but the wearer. They also cost about a fifth as much and run for a month between charges, because they are not carrying a sensor, a display or an assistant.
If you want to photograph your life hands-free, buy the camera glasses. We are not competing for that.
A ring puts the microphone closest of all — make a fist, bring it to your mouth, and you are at 3 centimetres. It is excellent for three to six second bursts.
The difference is duration and hands. Holding a fist to your mouth for four minutes is not sustainable, and a ring is a thing you must remember to wear for a reason. Sunglasses you were already wearing outdoors, and a paragraph costs you nothing but a press. Different shape, different length of thought.
Your phone is a better microphone than you think and a much worse capture device than you think, because of the four seconds between having a thought and having the app open. This product exists in those four seconds. It also keeps the phone in your pocket while you are walking a dog or holding a child's hand.
A dedicated recorder is better if the job is recording a room: an interview, a lecture, a meeting. Ours is specifically bad at that, on purpose. If you need to record other people, buy the recorder.
You can, and they are good. What they will not do is sit on your face when you were going to wear sunglasses anyway, and they will not hold sixteen hours of recording with the microphone under your eye. If you do not want the recording, they are the cheaper answer and we would rather say so.

Everywhere else needs radio certification in that market and a warehouse on the other side of the border before we can quote a price we can hold to. Doing that badly is worse than waiting, so we would rather ship one country well and say so plainly.
Twelve months on the electronics and the frame. Scratched lenses are not a warranty matter but a replacement front set costs the price of a lens, which is the advantage of putting all the electronics in the temples.
Yes, within thirty days, in the condition they arrived. Prescription lenses are cut to your numbers and cannot be resold, so those are excluded — the frame is not.
Yes, over Bluetooth through the app. Updates fix bugs and tune thresholds. They do not add wake words, assistants or lights.
